Pazzini – “It’s beautiful to be up there alone”

Giampaolo Pazzini says Sampdoria have not fluked their way to the top of Serie A, but admits his side will find it “almost impossible” to stay there.

The Blucerchiati have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, with five victories in six games, including a 1-0 win against champions Inter. As a result, they find themselves alone at the top of the Serie A table for the first time in 18 years.

“It’s beautiful to be up there alone, and it’s not by chance. We are up there for the city, for the club, for how we work every day,” Pazzini said.

“The Scudetto is almost impossible. There are more equipped teams than us, but for now we are enjoying first place.”

When asked to reveal Sampdoria’s secret, Pazzini replied: “We have important qualities. We started very strongly very quickly, without ever being content with ourselves and we have to continue like that.

“We have qualities that allow us to do good things. Personally I am taking revenge, but this also happened very quickly, pretty much as soon as I joined Samp,” Pazzini explained, referring to the darker days of his career at Fiorentina.

“Together with the goal I scored against Inter, living my first night as a League leader was a very beautiful sensation. We are really enjoying this great moment. I hope that it continues for as long as possible, if anything because it’s an enthralling championship that everyone likes,” Pazzini concluded.
